Kia’s pro_cee’d is a highly desirable compact hatchback, boasting a sporty coupé-style design and an engaging driving experience.
The pro_cee’d has three doors and is beautifully styled, with a sleek coupé-like shape which cuts a contemporary silhouette. With a wide, assertive stance and balanced proportions, this model has a performance-focused design. The front end sports a slimmer version of the distinctive Kia ‘tiger nose’ grille, flanked by swept-back headlights and LED daytime running lights.
The pro_cee’d has two fewer doors than the regular cee’d but concedes nothing when it comes to interior practicality. There is impressive head and legroom in the back seats and the boot holds 380 litres – the same as in the cee’d. The quality of the dashboard trim is very good, giving the cockpit an upmarket feel, and the seats are comfortable and nicely upholstered. The pro_cee’d SR7 includes a six-speaker audio system with DAB radio and Bluetooth connectivity. The GT-Line trim adds a satellite navigation system accessed through a seven-inch touchscreen.
This car is best experienced from the driver’s seat. The ride is supple and comfortable, and the handling is agile and surefooted. There is a wide choice of engine options, including four petrol units and a 1.6-litre diesel. A dedicated GT model is also an option, which places even greater emphasis on performance and agility.
The diesel engine is the most economical choice; when fitted with this unit the pro_cee’d returns up to 74.3mpg and emits just 99g/km of CO2. All grades of the pro_cee’d come with start/stop functionality as standard to help you save fuel on urban journeys.
The pro_cee’d has not been crash-tested but it has virtually identical safety credentials to the standard cee’d, which scored the full five stars in 2012. The standard safety specification in the pro_cee’d includes Electronic Stability Control, Hill-start Assist Control, ISOFIX child seat anchor points and six airbags.
