MINI only in
name, the Clubman is a large hatchback that’s made for families.
Designed on the iconic MINI Hatch models, the Clubman looks much like its cousins from the front profile. Standout features include its oval headlamps, wide grille edged in chrome and raised wheel haunches on the bonnet. However, it’s more robust than the Hatch’s with its extra length and width which gives it an estate design.
The Clubman’s party piece is its cupboard rear doors which split to open the boot. This configuration makes it much easier to get bags in the load space, and you can make it even more convenient by opting for the sensor under the bumper that will open the boot automatically – no hands needed.
Open the doors and you’ll notice lots of vintage circular features from the housing of the gear knob to the door handles, the speed dials and temperature controls. A sport steering wheel, armrest and interior lighting package are some of the premium features that enhance your driving experience. The speed dial is no longer in the centre of the dashboard and is now conveniently behind the wheel. Instead, a large circular screen that displays the entertainment and driver information takes pride of place in its position.
Each trim level has a designated engine, starting with the One D with an 116bhp unit through to the Cooper S boasting a 192bhp variant. The One D’s engine is the most fuel efficient, returning as much as 74mpg, which is closely followed by the Cooper D’s 150bhp unit that can achieve up to 68mpg. For a responsive drive in all weather conditions, go for the Cooper S All4 which has a four-wheel drive.
The Clubman’s advanced braking systems help you to come to a stop in a short distance, while the Cornering Brake Control keeps your course steady around tight bends. You can choose to add the Driver Assist that uses a camera in the front of the car to warn you of potential hazards.
While you’re cruising in the Clubman, you can listen to whichever playlist you choose with the MINI Excitement Pack that lets you use a number of your smartphone’s apps while driving. Bluetooth handsfree phone connectivity is another standard feature, as is the sat nav – all displayed on the central screen in the dashboard.
