Just like the
original MINI – just a bit bigger.
MINI’s classic design is prevalent in the 5-Door Hatch with its oval headlamps, box-like body, small size and large wheel arches. Every model has chrome detailing on the grille and headlamps, and the sportier Cooper variants each have a unique grille design along with signature racing strips on the bonnet.
Slightly longer than the 3-Door Hatch, the 5-Door version is more family friendly. Five doors make it much easier to get the children into the rear seats, and the boot is 67 litres larger, making it 278 litres in size, and there’s an extra seven centimetres of legroom in the back for added comfort.
As the driver, you can relax in an upmarket supermini. The sports seats will keep you supported to minimise swaying when you curve around corners, and the gear knob is placed by your knee for a laidback, sporty driving position. The circular displays for your speed and the entertainment are large and eye-catching making them easy to read. Air conditioning is standard on all 5-Door Hatch models, and for extra comfort in the winter you can ask for the front seats to be heated.
The MINI 5-Door Hatch is praised for its super-fun drive. It’s partly down to the low centre of gravity which makes it responsive on the road.
The engine you get depends on which MINI model you choose, with the One getting a 102bhp unit, the Cooper boasting 136bhp and the Copper S delivering 192bhp, just to name a few. Fuel efficiency is a priority, with mpg figures ranging from 47mpg through to as much as 80mpgn for the One D’s 92bhp engine.
While you’re driving, you can make calls via the Bluetooth handsfree connectivity and listen to the DAB digital radio. Opt to add the MINI Centre Instrument – a large circular screen in the centre of the dashboard. This plays host to parking sensors, sat nav, technical information and a range of apps. You can also choose head-up display to get your speed right in front of your eyes.
To help keep you and your family safe, the MINI 5-Door Hatch has a Stability Control System to prevent skidding and swerving when you reach higher speeds. Dynamic Traction Control is optional – this clever system corrects your course if your start to swerve around corners.
