The sleek, simple lines of the new XC90 conceal a hugely practical shape, with a powered tailgate ensuring no compromises are required. Every precision-crafted surface is perfectly resolved, from the Thor’s hammer running lights to the concave boot lid treatment. A range of exceptional 19-inch and 20-inch alloy wheels and refined, mature colour options complete its executive appeal.
The large windows flood the cabin with light and improve visibility at junctions, while standard rear parking sensors will make slotting it into tight car parking spaces a breeze.
Settle into the leather-bound seats of the XC90 and relax into every drive, with huge amounts of support and brilliantly bolstered at the sides. The centre console is a masterclass in simplicity, with the usual plethora of buttons eliminated in favour of a nine-inch, portrait-orientated touchscreen that controls everything from ventilation to the standard satellite navigation. Inscription models feature an even plusher interior, while the exceptional T8 Twin Engine has a unique blown-glass gear level made by a Swedish specialist fabricator.

The XC90 is powered by a range of four-cylinder, 2.0-litre engines that prioritise economy and green credentials. The twin-turbocharged D5 diesel with PowerPulse technology has 222bhp, while the T6 petrol has 316bhp. Every XC90 has a smooth eight-speed automatic gearbox so you can relax into the drive.
The superb T8 Twin Engine mates this punchy petrol engine to an electric motor for instant torque and acceleration. It offers performance car-rivalling power (0-60 takes just 5.3 seconds) while it can run on electric-only power for up to 25 miles in total silence – just charge it at home in the evening with the range of at-home charging options. It’s the ultimate relaxing commuter car.
Volvo’s reputation for innovative safety technology is further advanced by the XC90, which features City Safety automated braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection as standard.
Other safety aids include hill start assist, hill descent control, adaptive cruise control, automatic windscreen wipers and a tyre pressure monitoring system. A lane keeping aid, road sign information and a generous complement of airbags also come as standard.
