With the new E-Class Estate, Germany's best-known quality manufacturer, Mercedes-Benz, has released an exceptionally reliable and sensible executive car.
Whilst the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate may nothave the same wild and edgy styling as the Coupé or Cabriolet models in the E-Class range, it is actually all the better for it. Quite simply, the more angular styling wouldn't suit the E-Class Estate, as this is a car which projects its high-quality bearing and sensibilities through its design. That's not to say that it's plain – far from it. In fact, the E-Class Estate has the same well-sculpted lines that make the range so appealing, but they sweep down from a bonnet that appears extended, due to a smoother, more solid and more refined grille and air intakes.
The new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate may be an executive car, but the interior to those driving and being driven in it feels more like that of a limousine. The seats can be upholstered in Nappa leather at no extra cost, and they give an optimal driving position thanks to their ample padding and support.
Whilst the instrument display is already clear and easy to see, there is the option to upgrade to a dual-screen layout. If you choose the dual-screen as an extra upgrade, you will get separate displays for the dials and the satellite navigation in a higher resolution than the standard screen.
There is a V6 petrol engine on offer, but the bulk of the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate's engine range consists of diesels. In fact there are six of them all told. The highlights include two four-cylinder engine options for those seeking a more standard driving experience, but there's also a hybrid diesel as well as a V6. At the top of the range is the 2.0-litre turbo charged model and the AMG V8, which is capable of producing 557bhp.
As well as coming with a five-star crash safety rating from Euro NCAP, the new Mercedes-Benz E-Class Estate comes with a range of safety systems. For a start, the wing mirrors are equipped with blind spot assist warning icons, whilst Drive Pilot and Active Brake Assist help to slow the car in the event of potential impact. All of these systems and more come as standard with the new E-Class Estate, making it one of the safest executive cars on the road.
