Cooking up an industry first, Domino’s® and Ford have teamed up to push the boundaries of fast food convenience, experimenting with the possibilities surrounding self-driving pizza delivery.
Ford have already earmarked 2021 as the production year for their first automated vehicles. With the approximate date only four years away, the brand are currently making steps to see how these self-driving cars could benefit both businesses and customers; an initial testing period with Domino’s® is providing a great pedestal to see if already popular services could be improved by Ford’s innovative technology.
Taking place in Ann Arbor, Michigan, the trial will involve delivering pizzas to randomly-selected customers via a Ford Fusion Hybrid Autonomous Research Vehicle, manually-driven by a Ford safety engineer and supported by researchers. Participating customers will be able to track their special order through GPS on an enhanced version of Domino’s Tracker®, alongside a text message to explain how to open the Domino’s Heatwave Compartment™ with a unique code. Let’s hope it takes off and doesn’t become a pizza history…
