Poised to hit the road in 2018, the new Jaguar I-PACE has been revealed through a ground-breaking vehicle concept; showing off the anticipated features of the five-seat electric car, the latest offering from Jaguar is a blend of SUV brawn and sporting dynamics, with a commanding cab-forward design and luxurious interior.
Jaguar have only one physical example of the I-PACE and, as a result, have taken full advantage of Virtual Reality technology to propel the unrivalled experience of the new vehicle across the globe. While the concept car is in LA for its big reveal, VR allowed 300 special guests to be transported into a virtual space with a projection of two of the car’s creators, Ian Callum and Ian Hoban. Groups of 66 guests, including celebrities such as Michelle Rodriguez, Miranda Kerr and James Corden, used HTC Vive Business Edition headsets to place themselves in the VR version of the I-PACE and interact with the vehicle’s many features, enjoying a 360-degree view of Venice Beach while the car was built around them.
Powered by pioneering electric motors in the front and rear axles, as well as a 90kWh lithium-ion battery pack, the I-PACE has a combined output of 400PS and 700Nm of torque; shoulder-to-shoulder with the F-TYPE SVR. With technology developed in-house by Jaguar Land Rover, the I-PACE is tailored to produce ample performance and range for most daily activities, with a daily commute of 50 km easily attainable from an overnight wall socket charge.
The seamless electric motors on the I-PACE produce an immediate response, with zero interruptions from gearshifts or lag. Two interactive touchscreens will also ensure that up-to-the-minute information is displayed for the driver’s use, while reducing distraction and creating an exciting and informative driving experience.
Making its first physical appearance at the Los Angeles Auto Show on the 16th of November, those who are keen to own one of the first production I-PACE models can register their interest at jaguar.com.
