Selecting the renowned Los Angeles Auto Show as the pedestal for their ‘new original’ release, Jaguar Classic have revealed their collection of nine unique models of the historic XKSS, produced to the exact specification of the original 1957 vehicle.
The production of the XKSS is extremely limited; only nine units will be handcrafted by Jaguar Land Rover Classic’s team of UK experts, with the vehicles expected to meet their new owners in early 2017. Hailed as the world’s first supercar, the road-going conversion of the D-type was initially built at Jaguar’s Browns Lane facility in the Midlands; however, a fire devastated the factory during production, leaving only 16 examples of the XKSS. The ‘missing nine’ vehicles which were destroyed in the fire are to finally be liberated; sold with a price tag of over one million pounds each, all nine of the new vehicles will have period chassis numbers from the original XKSS chassis log, keeping them infinitely close to the archetypal models.
In order to enhance safety, the XKSS will receive minor updates where necessary, while the vast majority of the build will remain antiquated; with the construction time expected to span 10,000 man hours, the ‘new original’ XKSS will represent a truly iconic piece of Jaguar’s history, lightly enhanced to meet the expectations of the discerning buyer of today.
