Mercedes-Benz Energy are ready to distribute their first energy storage units to private homes, using automotive technology to help further efficiency into the everyday.
Made from lithium-ion batteries which have been used by Daimler in over 80,000 hybrid and full electric vehicles in the past 5 years, the units use up to eight battery modules with a capacity of up to 2.5 kWh each. This can then be used to create an energy storage unit with a capacity of up to 20 kWh.
Houses which already use solar energy can, by using these units, store surplus power to virtually eliminate loss; self-consumption of generated energy can then increase up to a massive 65%, creating an all-new way to efficiently use power.
Working with a wealth of distributors to deliver and install the units, Mercedes-Benz Energy is also partnering with companies who can provide a complete electricity solution, including the installation of solar power. In turn, they are expected to completely flick the switch on renewable energy in one’s own home.
