With luxurious interiors and beautiful outer design, the G-Class model range could fool you into believing they are well-versed in vanity; however, these off-road masters are experts in negotiating the elements, as proven by their latest test.
Trekking 65 miles across the Scottish Highlands, a troupe of GLE, GLS and G-Class vehicles spent two days negotiating an entirely off-road passage, demonstrating their expert ability to tackle unbeaten terrain.
All of the vehicles had a UK specification, with no modifications other than the removal of side steps where applicable. Instead, the cars were able to show off their standard features.
The G-Class, with its permanent 4MATIC all-wheel drive, has a low-range gearbox and three fully lockable differentials; hand-assembled in Graz, Austria, the model is produced at a rate of just 15 a day, making it as exclusive as it is practical.
The GLS also made light work of the Highlands with its enviable Off-Road package; a centre differential lock, protective underbody panelling, a low-range gearbox, fully manual mode for automatic transmission and an extra three selectable ride heights with AIRMATIC air suspension make it a true commander of nature’s tracks.
In addition, the GLE also tackled the off-road journey with ease, cutting through rivers and boggy fields without fuss, thanks to its own use of the Off-Road specification.
