  • The BMW Group has made significant developments in engine technology that have allowed us to reduce the total CO2 emissions of the MINI model range by 40%. As such, the latest generation of MINI TwinPower Turbo petrol, diesel and hybrid engines are cleaner and more efficient than ever, whilst still delivering our iconic MINI driving performance.

    CO2 DOWN - Between 1995 – 2016 we have reduced the total CO2 emissions of the BMW Group model range in Europe by 40%.


    Every new MINI engine meets the strictest EU6 emissions standards. The aim of EU6 is to reduce levels of harmful car and van exhaust emissions, both in petrol and diesel cars.

    This includes nitrogen oxide (NOx), carbon monoxide (CO), hydrocarbons (THC and NMHC) and particulate matter (PM), which is basically soot from diesel cars.




    GOVERNMENT LEGISLATION.

    LEZ – LOW EMISSION ZONE.

    This was introduced in 2008 to encourage the most polluting heavy diesel vehicles driving in the capital to become cleaner, but currently does not affect any cars. LEZs also exist in Brighton, Norwich, Nottingham and Oxford, however they currently only affect buses. Concerned customers should check local council websites for more information.

    T-CHARGE.

    From 23 October 2017, cars, vans, minibuses, buses, coaches and HGVs in central London will need to meet minimum exhaust emission standards, or pay a daily £10 Emissions Surcharge (also known as the Toxicity Charge, or T-Charge). This will be in addition to the Congestion Charge.

    ULEZ – ULTRA LOW EMISSION ZONE.

    The Ultra Low Emission Zone (due to start in September 2020) is an area within which all cars, motorcycles, vans, minibuses, buses, coaches and heavy good vehicles (HGVs) will need to meet exhaust emission standards (ULEZ standards) or pay a daily travel charge. All registered residents living in the ULEZ will be granted a three-year grace period with a 100% discount, until 6 September 2023. If the scheme is pulled forward, the grace period would also move in line.

    Euro 6 (diesel) vehicles registered after 1 September 2015 meet ULEZ standards.

    EURO EMISSION STANDARDS.

    For newer vehicles, the Euro emission standard may be listed on the vehicle log book (V5C). If your vehicle meets the required Euro emission standard, it will be compliant with ULEZ.

  • Euro 4 for petrol cars: Petrol cars registered on or after 1 January 2006
  • CLEAN AIR FRAMEWORK.

    Clean Air Framework from the Department of Transport issued that EU6 Diesel will not face any penalty charges anywhere in the UK.

    SUSTAINABILITY.

    BMW Group has been named the world’s most sustainable car maker for the last three consecutive years according to the Dow Jones Sustainability Indices (DJSI).


    Since 2006, we have reduced the energy consumption required to produce a MINI by 35% and reduced the waste produced by over 80%.

    MINI TwinPower Turbo diesel engines deliver a spirited response, class-leading fuel economy and impressively low emissions thanks to MINIMALISM technology, meaning you can enjoy more thrust with less thirst.


    NOx REDUCED 90% - Our diesel engines employ two highly effective systems which, when combined, eliminate up to 90% of nitrogen oxide (NOX) emissions.

    All models include a diesel particulate filter and maintenance-free NOX storage catalytic converter.

    CO2 REDUCED 20% - On average, a diesel engine emits 20% less CO2 than a comparable petrol engine.


    MINI diesel engines are made from lightweight aluminium and are available in 3 and 4 cylinder variants.

    THE NEW MINI COUNTRYMAN PLUG-IN HYBRID.

    UK GOVERNMENT PLUG-IN GRANT.

    OLEV has confirmed that the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 is eligible for the Plug-in Car Grant (PiCG) scheme. It will be added to the list of eligible vehicles on the gov.uk page and to the PiCG Portal.

    It is the responsibility of the retailer to administer the PiCG claim on behalf of the customer. To secure the grant at £2,500 retailers must raise a PiCG Portal case prior to registration and the vehicle must be delivered within a maximum of nine months.

    In case of any queries around the PiCG, retailers should contact the Network Support Team and not OLEV directly.

    The Network Support Team will arrange for access to the PiCG Portal for all retailers.


    THE NEW MINI COUNTRYMAN PLUG-IN HYBRID.

    DRIVETRAIN.

    The MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 uses its dual drivetrain to achieve impressive performance and economy figures along with the ability for zero exhaust emissions when in eDrive pure electric mode. The benefit of the dual drivetrain on this new model is the ability of the two axles to deliver all-wheel drive when both the ICE and electric engine are being used.

    REAL-WORLD FUEL CONSUMPTION.

    Customer qualification, to ensure the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 is the right car for your customer, is imperative to establish their driving habits and make sure the car suits their needs.

    The MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid has various drive modes that allow the driver to significantly influence the actual consumption. This depends on driving behaviour, distance travelled and the mode selected.


    URBAN & DAY-TO-DAY DRIVING.

    Short distances can be covered on purely electric power, although most urban journeys will operate in the hybrid mode. Longer journeys may result in the combined consumption figures above vehicles in the class without electric drivetrains. The graph helps to explain which driving styles and distances suit either an eDrive vehicle such as the MINI Countryman Plug-in Hybrid or an Internal Combustion Engine (ICE) vehicle.

    It is important to discuss this with your customer as the MINI Cooper S E Countryman ALL4 is more typically suited to urban journeys of short to medium distance which optimise the electric motor, consequently reducing petrol consumption.

    Key to getting the most out of the hybrid nature of the vehicle is making use of the ability to charge the electric battery at a power source.
