The Nissan Qashqai is enjoying its 10th birthday this February, marking the long-standing success of the world’s flagship SUV/hatchback crossover.
Originally intended to be the new Almera, Nissan’s leading team of designers decided to re-work their plans, thus creating a vehicle containing all of the key elements that their customers were looking for; practicality, desirability, size, efficiency and performance. As a result, the Qashqai was born.
A European best-seller, Nissan’s Sunderland plant have manufactured over 2.3 million units of the Qashqai, with more than 80 awards under its belt; 19 of these declaring the crossover their ‘Car of the Year’.
After the Qashqai’s trailblazing release, the C-Segment grew significantly in its wake; 21 direct competitors now exist in the market, but the Qashqai remains the forerunner. Global sales have now reached a massive 3.3 million units, spanning 137 countries; and with frequent technology upgrades such as an Around View monitor, 360° parking camera and Intelligent Park Assist, there’s plenty to keep the Qashqai’s appeal fresh.
