New A3 Sportback TFSIe Plug-In Hybrid

Audi has electrified its all-new A3 Sportback range with this city-friendly plug-in hybrid (PHEV). Available now at Marshall, this compact hybrid gives you sporty drive performance combined with all the benefits of local emissions-free driving.

It still features the styling and strengths of the new A3 product line, but with added eco and pocket-friendly innovation. Under the bonnet you’ll find a 110kW/250Nm 1.4 litre turbocharged 4-cylinder engine combined which is combined with 150kW of electric power in hybrid mode. When working together with maximum boost, the system torque reaches 350 Nm (258.1 lb-ft).

This hybrid boasts an electric driving range of 48.5 miles, making it an ideal choice for drivers who combine city life with open roads at weekends. Now that most city centres are ULEZ zones, it’s a no-brainer to drive electric when local.

When used in hybrid mode, the two power sources divide the work intelligently, ensuring that you get to your destination on the most efficient fuel source. You can “Hold” the battery, or “Charge” the battery, for when you want to reserve electric power for a stretch of urban driving.

There’s little to differentiate the plug-in hybrid A3 from its regular petrol and diesel counterparts on the exterior. It features the same muscular design with wide wheel arches. With the free myAudi app, you can control pre-entry climate control remotely. One giveaway to the car's eco-friendly credentials is the new (optional) LED headlight in futuristic E shape design. Depending on the line selected, specially designed 16-inch alloy wheels come as standard, with 17-inch or 18-inch wheels upon request. Further options on wheel-size may be possible at time of order. Inside, seat upholstery made of recycled PET bottles, with contrasting stitching, is a new addition to the range.

Like all new A3 models, the compact plug-in hybrid is equipped with the third-generation modular infotainment platform. Its computing power is ten times higher than that of its predecessor and includes an integrated Wi-Fi hotspot.

A head-up display, sport seats with integrated head restraints, and a panoramic glass sunroof are available upon request.

​Range - Up to 48.5 miles in electric mode (NEDC).

Charging - A full domestic charge in just over 4 hours with Type 2 cable supplied. It charges with a maximum power of 2.9 kW. With the free myAudi app, you can control charging times remotely.

Performance

In hybrid mode, the A3 Sportback e accelerates 0-37.3mph in 5.2 seconds, with a top electrical speed of 87mph. In engine mode, it achieves 0-62.1mph in 7.6 seconds, with a top speed of 141.1mph.

Features include front wheel drive, turbo direct injection, 6 speed S tronic/dual clutch, and electromechanical steering with speed-dependant power assistance.

The drive management of the Audi A3 Sportback 40 TFSI e uses a large volume of data that the navigation, sensors, and assist systems supply. In the interest of efficiency, it selects freewheeling with deactivated TFSI in most situations when decelerating, allowing the car to coast.

Drivers can also use the standard Audi drive select system, which offers the driving profiles comfort, auto, dynamic, and individual.

What is a plug-in hybrid?

Plug-in hybrids combine a conventional internal combustion engine (IC engine) and an electric motor supplied with energy from a lithium-ion battery located at the rear. Audi’s smart powertrain management system controls the interaction of the electric motor and the IC engine. It decides when the car will operate in fully electric mode, when energy is recuperated, and when to coast or activate the IC.

Charging

The battery can be charged at a charging station or power outlet. 

Audi offers various solutions for charging at home. For most Audi hybrids, the standard mobile charging system can be used with either a 230-volt household outlet or a 400 volt three-phase outlet. The optional “connect” charging system doubles the charging power to as much as 22 kW. Combined with a home energy management system, it offers intelligent functions such as charging when electricity is less expensive or with solar electricity if the home is equipped with a photovoltaic system. The electric driving experience

EV grant

The Audi A3 TFSI e may qualify for the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme (EVHS) that provides up to £350 off the cost of a home wallbox.

For addresses in Scotland, the Energy Saving Trust is currently offering up to £300 further funding, on top of the Electric Vehicle Homecharge Scheme.

Road Tax (VED) savings

Plug-in hybrids and electric vehicles (less than 51g/km of CO₂) are currently exempt from paying VED (in the 20/21 tax year).
