Audi has become the first car maker to offer its customers a 3D online car configurator.
Traditionally, car configurators have used static images only. But now, Audi buyers can visit the manufacturer’s website to get a 360-degree view of an animated vehicle from any computer device.
They will be able to experience their custom-configured car interactively, down to the smallest detail – such as turning on the headlights, opening and closing the doors, or opening and closing a convertible roof. They will also be able to place their Audi in different environments, from tunnels to green Icelandic landscapes.
Following a successful pilot programme with the Audi A4, the 3D configurator – which draws on rendering techniques used widely in the gaming industry – will be available for all models and equipment variants in the Audi range.
The application is available directly from the website. No additional apps or plug-ins are needed.
“Particularly when it comes to the individual equipment options, our new 3D visualisation in the configurator provides customers with an extremely comprehensive, detailed image of the desired model and supports their purchasing decision,” Thomas Orenz, Project Manager for the Audi Visualization Engine, said.
The new 3D Audi Visualisation Engine is launching in 25 countries worldwide, including the UK.
