Bright Sparks: The
Nissan LEAF and e-NV200 dominate the electric vehicle market in November.
Nissan’s all-electric powerhouses, the compact LEAF and e-NV200 LCV, are proving extremely popular in their respective segments with incredibly impressive figures for November.
The Nissan LEAF topped the charts as the best-selling entirely electric vehicle, with a massive market share of 47.3%; that’s a rise of 30.4% on November 2015. In total, the LEAF doubled last year’s sales numbers, boasting a staggering 115% increase and earning them the title of November’s fastest-growing model in the C-segment.
Nissan are also proving themselves to be trailblazers in the electric van segment, with their e-NV200 named the market’s bestseller; an impressive 75.4% of November’s electric LCV sales were of this model.
The perks of owning an electric vehicle are so vast, it’s no wonder that so many drivers are making the change. Not only are driving costs 85% cheaper than a petrol or diesel car, but maintenance is also around 75% less; in addition, drivers are often exempt from Congestion and parking charges, with home charging adding even more convenience.
The future of electric vehicles is set to bring even more advantages, directly to the owner’s front door. For example, Vehicle to Grid (V2G) technology will soon be an addition to Nissan’s existing Intelligent Mobility platform; during peak periods, users will be able to power their homes using the remaining charge in their electric car’s battery, while then being able to re-charge the vehicle during off-peak times and benefit from cheaper tariffs.
