The automotive title – which has been helping Britain’s car buyers make purchase decisions for more than 50 years – heaped praise on All New MICRA in a recent review, praising its sprightly performance, comfortable ride, and “slightly longer range that most rivals”.
The car – awarded the maximum five stars by What Car? – was also lauded because of its ‘‘smart and user-friendly interior’’ and competitive pricing.
The review was carried out by consumer editor Claire Evans, who wrote: “The MICRA’s ride is supple enough to cushion you well over bumps and potholes, yet it’s controlled enough to feel composed. In short, it’s comfortable.”
She added that the all-electric city car “handles well, giving you confidence via accurate steering, good grip and strong brakes”.
Turning to the cabin, Claire observed: “The interior is smart, modern and surprisingly plush for a car at this price point. You get soft-touch plastics and padded fabric on the dashboard and doors, which give it a more premium feel [than some rivals].
“The driver’s seat is comfortable and lines up neatly with the pedals and steering wheel, plus top-spec Evolve trim-level models come with electronically-adjustable lumbar support as standard. Rear parking sensors are standard on entry-level Engage trim, and the posher trim levels add front sensors and a rear-view camera.
“A digital instrument display sits in front of the driver, measuring seven inches on the cheapest trim, and 10.1 inches if you go for one of the higher-spec variants. However, whichever MICRA you choose, you get a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system in the centre of the dashboard.
“On mid-spec models upwards, this borrows the NissanConnect with Google built-in technology from the larger Nissan Qashqai. It enables the driver to use the screen or voice control to make phone calls, stream music, plan trips via Google Maps, and control various vehicle functions, including the heated seats.
“You’ll also find a handy row of buttons that allow you to alter the air-con temperature and fan speed.
“Another bonus of the Google built-in system is that it will pre-condition (heat up) the EV battery pack to the optimum temperature for charging if you’re heading for a charging station and using the sat-nav. Plus, the MICRA is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay so you can use your smartphone apps through its infotainment screen.”
Summing things up, Claire advised readers to buy a Nissan MICRA if they want a car that’s equally suited to narrow urban streets and high-speed motorway driving; they love old-school styling but want modern creature comforts; and they can benefit from cheap off-peak home EV charging tariffs.
