New Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER wins Best Powertrain accolade at News UK Motor Awards 2024

Press Information | 11 October 2024

The New Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER has earned accolades from The Sun, The Sunday Times, and driving.co.uk at the 2024 News UK Motor Awards, celebrated for its standout and advanced electrified powertrain.

This recognition is a well-earned achievement for Nissan and the UK-manufactured New Nissan Qashqai, marking a year where the popular crossover has gained significant attention. Its success is bolstered by the launch of a major update and its prominent presence in a successful marketing campaign.

Since its debut in September 2022, Nissan has sold over 140,000 New Nissan Qashqai with e-POWER vehicles, with customers appreciating the "electric drive" experience that the technology offers.

Rob Gill, Motors Editor at The Sun, commented:“We can’t get enough of them. New Nissan Qashqai is the car that started it all and now the clever e-POWER system moves the game on even further.

“It has all the advantages of an electric car without the not-so-good bits like recharging with a plug. The petrol engine charges the battery and an electric motor drives the wheels. We averaged 46mpg over 700 miles, which is mighty impressive for a family SUV, plus it’s designed, engineered and made in Britain.”

The uniqueness of the innovative e-POWER powertrain lies in its design, where the wheels are exclusively driven by an electric motor, setting it apart from conventional hybrids. This allows the vehicle to offer an EV-like driving experience without the need for plugging in and recharging.

Ideal Choice

This is an ideal choice for customers who want cutting-edge, efficient technology but aren't yet ready to transition to a fully electric vehicle.

The car's turbocharged three-cylinder engine serves solely to produce electricity, which is then directed through an inverter to either the 140kW electric motor, the 1.8kWh battery, or both, depending on the driving conditions.

Operating quietly behind the scenes, the engine adjusts electricity supply based on the vehicle's speed, ensuring a seamless connection between engine sound and the car's movement.

Diana Torres, Managing Director of Nissan GB, stated: ‘‘We couldn’t be more thrilled that the new Qashqai, powered by Nissan’s unique e-POWER technology, beat its hybrid rivals in a highly competitive class at the News UK Motor Awards 2024.

”It means a huge amount to be selected for recognition by some of the UK’s most popular publications and their motoring experts.

‘‘Nissan is proud to have created the crossover segment when it launched Qashqai in 2007. The cars on sale today are a far cry from those early models, of course, and the introduction of e-POWER technology in 2022 was a huge moment for Qashqai. It’s a car that’s incredibly important to all of us at Nissan and continues to be much-loved by our customers.’’

As part of a highly acclaimed marketing campaign last month, a replica of a Nissan Qashqai was mounted onto the chimney of the Truman Brewery in East London, earning widespread praise from industry experts.
