Nissan Qashqai: the original and now even better

Press Information | 19 April 2024

Change is constant in the fiercely competitive crossover segment that Nissan revolutionised with the debut of the original Qashqai.

The New Qashqai combines a fresh look with cutting-edge technology, all while staying true to what drivers love. It boasts a bolder design and a more user-friendly infotainment system with improved connectivity features.

Exterior updates refresh Qashqai’s look

The updated exterior design enhances the Qashqai's appearance, exuding a contemporary and sleek dynamism. The front grille has undergone an update to make a more impactful initial impression. Drawing inspiration from the patterns found in ancient Japanese armour, it now features numerous high-gloss, three-dimensional, comma-shaped elements that seem to float between the bonnet's edge and the number plate area.

The flanks of the bumper are body-coloured and a strip of black in a high-gloss finish runs below the number plate to the lower corners of the bumper. The upper daytime running light element now functions as the turn indicator when activated and, for the first time, incorporates sequential turning lights (depending on the grade).

At the rear, while the shape of the lights remains unchanged, the composition within the unit has undergone a redesign. The red lighting elements now comprise four individual segments, mirroring the shape of the front grille "commas". These elements appear to float within the lens housing and are now a distinct shade of red, referred to as "super red", adding a sense of heightened precision.

The bumper has been redesigned, featuring a harmonized colour scheme - either gloss black on the higher-grade versions or body-coloured on the new N-Design grade. Similarly, when viewed from the side profile, the updated Qashqai on the higher grades showcases a new gloss black finish on the body beneath the doors and wheel arches. The Qashqai is available in five colours – Pearl White, Deep Ocean, Fuji Red, Magnetic Blue and Ceramic Grey – are available in two-tone, with a black roof for a more distinctive look.

A new 18” diamond-cut alloy wheel is now standard on the mid-grade Qashqai, while higher grades boast a new 19” alloy and a fresh 20” diamond-cut alloy wheel design.

Upgraded interior trim

For the upper grades (N-Design and Tekna+), Alcantara now graces the dashboard, door inserts, armrests, centre storage console lid, and knee pads, enhancing the onboard ambiance.

New patterned materials adorn the centre console around the gear selector and the decoration insert between the upper dashboard and glovebox, showcasing the meticulous attention to detail inherent in Japanese craftsmanship. Updated seat trims across the upper three grades of Qashqai contribute to an even more luxurious feel.

Adding another layer to the enhanced onboard experience is the introduction of ambient lighting on the N-Connecta, N-Design grades, and beyond. Advanced red, green, and blue LEDs, strategically placed, enable drivers or passengers to personalize the interior lighting to match their mood. In the top two grades, these LEDs extend to the rear, ensuring all occupants can appreciate the effect. Control of the ambient lighting settings is accessible via the central infotainment screen.

Upgraded technology

One of the frequently utilised features on the Qashqai has undergone a significant upgrade. The Around View Monitor (AVM) is a hallmark Nissan technology with roots tracing back to 2007. The enhanced AVM system now incorporates a 3D feature, enabling drivers to not only view the car from above but also choose from eight distinct external camera angles. This allows for visualisation of the car's surroundings from various perspectives, including the front, rear, sides, or corners, helping to detect any potential exterior hazards. This functionality is complemented by Nissan's Moving Object Detection system, which alerts drivers to the presence of moving objects near the Qashqai.

Another innovative addition to the smart AVM system is the "Parking Spot Location Memory" feature. This allows Qashqai drivers to save frequently-visited parking spots, enabling the car to automatically recognise these locations via GPS. Subsequently, the car recalls the precise position, facilitating perfect parking each time, particularly beneficial in snug parking situations.

The Autonomous Emergency Braking functions have been recalibrated to sharpen their risk detection and to react more quickly in case of possible collision. This applies to Front Emergency Brake, Pedestrian Front Emergency Brake, Front Emergency Brake Cyclist, and Intelligent Emergency Brake functions. The Emergency Lane Keep System is now automatically activated on starting the Qashqai. It triggers the operation of both Lane Departure Warning and Lane Departure Prevention systems at speeds above 60km/h.

The newly updated Qashqai marks Nissan's European debut of the Google built-in suite, enabling a seamless integration between a driver's digital lifestyle and their vehicle. Featuring Google Maps, drivers can access their preferred locations and points of interest by signing in with their personal Google Account.

Google Assistant enables hands-free assistance for drivers on the move, allowing them to control various vehicle functions with simple voice commands. For instance, by saying "Hey Google," drivers can adjust the ventilation system, heated seats, or navigate to their destination. They can also make phone calls and listen to audio instructions without diverting their attention from the road. Moreover, drivers can access a wide array of apps available for download on Google Play, allowing them to enjoy their preferred music, podcasts, audiobooks, and more directly from their vehicle.

e-POWER: a unique and innovative powertrain

In the world of engineering, the simplest ideas are often the best. And e-POWER perfectly reflects that principle.

The petrol engine generates electricity to power the wheels, offering a simpler solution compared to many traditional hybrids available today. This simplicity translates into a driving experience that seamlessly blends responsiveness, refinement, and efficiency, without sacrificing driving pleasure. Since its introduction in September 2022 on both the Qashqai and X-Trail, Nissan has sold over 100,000 e-POWER equipped vehicles in Europe, with customers particularly enjoying the electric drive sensation.
