After the successful debut of the New Nissan Qashqai this year, the motoring press has acknowledged its strengths, securing a win in a head-to-head battle against the Kia Sportage.
This face-off was part of a "Real World Road Test" conducted by Auto Express, a top UK car review publication, where the New Nissan Qashqai came out on top. Its refined performance, strong value for money, and impressive features all contributed to its victory.
Auto Express highlighted Nissan’s clever strategy when the New Nissan Qashqai first launched in the mid-2000s. Combining the driving ease and affordability of a hatchback with the space and curb appeal of an SUV, the New Nissan Qashqai quickly became a ‘‘sales superstar’’.
Although competitors caught up by the time the third-generation model appeared, the New Nissan Qashqai has stayed relevant and is now the third best-selling car in the UK for 2024. One of its closest competitors, the Kia Sportage, has often edged out New Nissan Qashqai in recent comparisons, but this time, New Nissan Qashqai has reclaimed the top spot.
Both vehicles were extensively reviewed in a 16-page spread in Auto Express and on its website.
Positive remarks for the New Nissan Qashqai included its innovative e-Power hybrid system, top-notch safety features, and the fact that it remains "stable and secure" on both A and B roads, yet ‘‘agile enough when it needs to be’’. Turning to engine noise, the new car is ‘‘hushed at speed’’ on motorways while high-speed comfort and stability were described as ‘‘great’’.
Additional highlights included a clear, large digital dashboard and a practical reversible boot floor with a wipe-clean surface, perfect for messy tasks. Stowage in the cabin was described as ‘‘impressive’’, the front seats have extensive adjustments, and the doors open wide for easy access.
Auto Express concluded, "‘It’s the first win for the Mk3 Qashqai in an Auto Express comparison test, an impressive turnaround considering previous results."
‘The great hybrid powertrain helps secure the victory, while the small revisions in this mid-life update boost its appeal.
‘‘But the key factor behind the win is its improved value for money; strong finance offers make it cheaper than ever. A win against Sportage, one of our class favourites, is a big coup. Its strong sales run deserves to continue even further.’’
