If you want an electric vehicle, why not go for Britain’s best-seller? The Nissan LEAF can travel further on a single charge than any of its rivals, with a range of up to 155 miles. The LEAF’s heavy underfloor batteries give it a low centre of gravity, which helps it hold its own on the road.
Inside, all the driver controls are where you’d expect them to be for your convenience – which isn’t a standard feature of electric cars. But you’ll notice a difference when it comes to noise, as the electric motor is virtually silent. A single light on the dashboard is the only indication that the car is ready to go.
The LEAF is well-equipped– even the entry-level Visia comes with a reversing camera, satellite navigation and keyless entry. A 370-litre boot is generous in this practical vehicle, and there’s plenty of space for the whole family in the cabin, too. Two battery capacities are available – 24kWh and 30kW – and costs are as low as 2p per mile. Both versions come with the same amount of interior space, so you don’t have to sacrifice room for power.
