If you’re comparing the Audi Q3 vs. Q5 vs. Q7, then you’re on the right path to get a premium SUV that feels as luxurious as it is rugged.
But there are some big differences between the three, not least their sizes, so which model is right for you?
In this guide, we’ll walk you through the differences between the Q3, Q5 and Q7 so you can choose the right SUV for your lifestyle and budget.
If family life is a priority for you, then space and flexibility are key, so you’ll be after plenty of rear passenger space, wide-opening doors and a boot big enough to deal with plenty of luggage.

Boot capacities are quoted in seven-, five- and two-seat modes depending on how many seats you’ve folded down, and the Q3’s rear seats can be tilted and slid forward to maximise boot space even further.
Efficiency depends on engine choice, but even with the same engine, the Q3 will inevitably exceed the Q7 because it’s far lighter and more aerodynamic.
As a guide, the Q3 and Q5 both come with a 204hp petrol engine that'll do around 35-40mpg, and a similarly powered diesel engine (193hp or 204hp) that claims around 43-47mpg.
The Q3 also has smaller 150hp petrol and diesel options that are more efficient, while the Audi Q7 has a bigger 3.0-litre V6 petrol and diesel engines.
All three come with plug-in hybrid options that can do 50-73 miles on a full charge, if you want to further reduce your local running costs.
Audi’s ‘quattro’ four-wheel drive system is perfect for situations where you need a bit of extra grip, such as the cold winter months or towing scenarios.
It’s standard on the Q5 and Q7 as well as the higher-powered Q3 variants. As for the 150hp and plug-in hybrid Q3, these are front-wheel drive.
All three feel very premium and start with the same building blocks, including Audi’s excellent MMI infotainment system. But each feels progressively more luxurious as you go up through the range.
