The sports car of tomorrow has hit the showrooms of today, with two expressive body styles to suit your every athletic whim.
Finely-tuned BMW eDrive technology has made the electric capability of the new i8 even more keen. Boasting an increased range of 34 miles (33 miles for the Roadster) whilst on battery power, the i8 has doubled its scope by a further 50%. As you would hope for a hybrid vehicle, the new i8 is also blissfully efficient, skimming below 50g/km of CO2; that’s an emissions reduction of 50%, when compared to a sports car with similar power.
A true sports car, the new i8 doesn’t skimp on performance. The electric motor has a top output of 143hp, with a maximum torque of 250Nm; put it all together and one can enjoy acceleration from 0 to 62mph in 4.4 seconds from the coupé, and 4.6 seconds in the Roadster. Both models are electronically limited to a peak speed of 155 mph.
Dynamic by nature, the new BMW i8 also utilizes hybrid-specific all-wheel drive, as well as five driving modes; hybrid drive with COMFORT, SPORT or ECO PRO settings and all-electric driving in COMFORT or ECO PRO.
When it comes to driver assistance, the i8 continues to be bountiful. Collision and Pedestrian Warning with City Braking function, Park Distance Control with sensors at the front and rear, High Beam Assistant, Speed Limit Info including No Passing Info display, and the Side View and Top View function are all part of the package. In addition, trailblazing laser headlights (BMW Laserlights with BMW Selective Beam) are non-dazzling with a range of up to 600 metres. That’s some serious visibility.
Of course, the i8 wouldn’t be a BMW without offering flawless connectivity. The BMW Connected App is a mobility assistant which syncs with one’s smartphone or smartwatch, putting connectivity firmly at your fingertips.
Order books open for the new BMW i8 in January 2018. Prices for the BMW i8 Coupé start at £112,730 OTR and the Roadster from £124,730 OTR.
