A driver-orientated centre console boasts an advanced touch interface, with 6 tiles to represent navigation, media, communications, ConnectedDrive, My Vehicle data and messaging. Each set of 3 tiles are displayed ‘live’, so specific functions and up-to-the-minute information are always visible, reducing driver distraction. The BMW 5 Series’ ultra-intelligent ‘brain’ is ever-ready to provide information to make busy lives blissfully simple; an on-street parking feature predicts the probability of free parking (available late 2017), while Microsoft Exchange syncs email, contacts and calendar data from mobile devices, allowing information to be accessed without relying on an additional end device.
Further devoting itself to wireless convenience, the new 5 Series features an iDrive touch controller, allowing the driver to input navigation information by writing freehand; meanwhile, BMW Gesture control allows numerous menus to be negotiated quickly and seamlessly via simple hand motions. The new BMW 5 Series is so ergonomically advanced, it’s almost a sixth sense.
Other highlights of the new BMW 5 Series Saloon’s enviable specification include enhanced Bluetooth with wireless charging, an instrument panel in Sensatec (an artificial leather upper, wrapped over semi-rigid foam for a sensually soft touch), Ambient Air Package for maximum comfort and a crystal-clear Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround Sound system; 16 speakers placed over stunning backlights, for a second-to-none audio experience.
