The first MINI Living building is coming to life in Shanghai, with its sights set on providing a sustainable solution to shrinking residential plots.
Working with Chinese project developer Nova Property Investment Co. to revamp an empty industrial complex in the Jing’An district of Shanghai, the MINI Living program will create an attractive and functional domestic space, in what would usually be regarded as very close quarters.
Offering homes, working spaces and leisure facilities, the build of the new hub is due to begin before the end of 2017.In line with MINI’s “Creative Use of Space” motto, the latest project is developed from age-old MINI expertise; from the design of small vehicles which are awash with possibilities, to the restoration of latent ground, MINI are steering human interest into the potential of pocket-sized spaces.
Cultivating a high quality of life into a compact block, the MINI Living project will be a co-living concept, creating households for singles, sharers and families on short, medium-term and extended tenancies. Anything that can’t comfortably fit into a MINI home will find its place in a nearby area, within the building itself; gardens, play areas, shops and restaurants will all be part of the expanse, with digital services making restaurant reservations, room service, food ordering and paying rent easier than ever.
As well as providing a viable alternative to the current rental market in Shanghai, many of the shared facilities in the building will be accessible to the public – Increasing urban living standards for all.
