The BMW M5 is the ultimate super-saloon. To the untrained eye it looks largely like any other 5 Series model, but under the bonnet lurks a ferociously powerful, naturally-aspirated petrol engine that launches you to 60mph in less than 4.5 seconds.
The latest version of the M5 was launched in 2011 and is based on the award-winning 5 Series, making it more fuel-efficient and less polluting than ever before, despite the fact it’s more powerful than any previous model. There’s a seven-speed, twin-clutch semi-automatic gearbox fitted as standard, leaving you free to concentrate on the brilliantly taut steering.
Even on dead straight motorways, you’ll find yourself smiling. It’s still a spacious and comfortable saloon, after all, so it’s a pleasure to live with on long-distance treks or your regular trips to the supermarket.
