When we designed our first compact van, 65 years ago, we aimed to capture your imagination and meet your professional needs. Since then, each generation of the Transporter panel van has added to the legacy. The Transporter 6.1 panel van is the latest of the line, featuring a redesigned front end and interior, unprecedented connectivity and a more efficiently packaged load space. It carries over Volkswagen’s latest driver assistance systems and offers a range of Euro 6 compliant drivetrains including 4MOTION, to suit every purpose.
The Transporter range gains lots of useful driver assistance systems with the introduction of the Transporter 6.1. Innovative driver assistance and safety systems help you to avoid danger in critical situations, and the new electro-mechanical steering as standard allows the introduction of additional driver assistance features.
Front assist with city emergency braking
Newly upgraded for the T6.1, Front Assist with City Emergency Braking warns the driver of impending collisions and, if necessary, will autonomously apply the brakes. On the T6.1, it even responds to potential roadside hazards such as cyclists and pedestrians. This system helps keep drivers and cargo safe, as well as reducing the risk of accidents and subsequent costs through damage repair and downtime.
The Transporter panel van 6.1 features an electromechanical steering system as standard, enabling a range of intelligent driver assistance systems including Crosswind Assist and Lane Assist, which detects road markings to keep the vehicle in its lane. Park Assist simplifies manoeuvring into and out of tight spaces by steering automatically, leaving the driver to operate the pedals.
Driver steering recommendation
Newly launched and standard across the T6.1 range, Driver Steering Recommendation gives the driver suggested inputs to help stabilise the vehicle. The system also intervenes using gentle adjustments if it recognises oversteer when cornering.
Crosswind assist
As part of the Electronic Stabilisation System (ESP), this applies the brakes if the vehicle encounters a strong crosswind. Standard across the T6.1 range, this feature is activated automatically when travelling above 50 mph.
Lane assist
Available as an option, Lane Assist counter steers the vehicle if the driver unintentionally drifts from a lane. The system also emits audible and visual warnings via the multi-function display to alert the driver of danger.
Park assist
This optional extra aids positioning into parking spaces. When reverse gear is engaged, the vehicle automatically assumes control of the steering. All the driver has to do is operate the clutch, accelerator and brake.
Side protection
Included with Park Assist, Side Protection monitors the vehicle's sides and alerts you using visual and audible warnings if you're getting too close to objects such as other vehicles, pillars, walls or pedestrians. Side Protection uses 12 ultrasound sensors (6 front and 6 rear) to detect objects and create a field of vision around the vehicle.
Trailer assist
The Transporter 6.1 features Trailer Assist, which lets the driver manoeuvre the vehicle and its trailer easily during parallel and reverse parking, using the wing mirror switch and rear-view camera.
Adaptive cruise control
Adaptive Cruise Control provides relaxed, safe and stress-free driving and improved safety for other road users. It measures the distance to the vehicle in front and adjusts your speed accordingly. If the vehicle in front accelerates, the T6.1 automatically follows at the set distance up to the previously selected speed. With T6.1, this system can bring the vehicle to a complete standstill and then pull away when the vehicle in front has moved (DSG only).
The Transporter panel van 6.1 makes your journey as comfortable as possible with intelligent mobile online services, next-generation infotainment systems and a redesigned cab environment. The new infotainment systems are fully touchscreen and feature redesigned graphics, as well as an integrated SIM card as standard that offers a range of online functions and services.
Composition colour
Enjoy music, navigation and smartphone integration with the Composition Colour infotainment system.
Discover media
Make the most of the Discover Media's large touchscreen and connectivity to stay informed on the road. The 2D/2.5D navigation comes with European maps displaying a range of useful information such as points of interest and speed limits. To help you avoid congestion, this system even offers you three routes – fast, short and eco-friendly – using live traffic updates.
Volkswagen We Connect
Launching as part of the T6.1 range, We Connect offers drivers a huge range of new features thanks to the increased connectivity of the T6.1. These features include:
Constant online connectivity
All-new across the T6.1 range, the integrated SIM card (eSIM) comes as standard with the new infotainment systems. The eSIM opens up a range of online-based functions and services to T6.1 owners.For example, following an accident, eCall automatically send the vehicle location to an emergency response centre and establishes a voice connection. If the driver doesn't respond, eCall automatically informs the emergency services. Internet connectivity also lets the T6.1 access the new 'We Connect' world of mobile online service (MOS).
With its high-quality interior and generously sized load compartment, the Transporter panel van 6.1 offers outstanding functionality and versatility. More efficient rear design has increased load length and new locking functions keep your cargo secure. Some things don't change - the Transporter's reputation as a flexible, capable and well-built van carries into this latest generation.
A range of sizes
The Transporter panel van 6.1 adapts perfectly to every task. Two wheelbases and two roof sizes give a load volume from 5.8 to 9.3 m3 with space for up to 3 Euro pallets. With its low rear sill, generous rear opening width of 1,473 mm and maximum load height of 1,940 mm for high roof models, you’ll discover that whichever solution you choose, the Transporter makes load access easy and convenient.
Load security
The load compartment is available with extra fastening aids that make sure your cargo is protected and securely held in place.
Rear door solutions
The Transporter 6.1 panel van has the perfect rear door solution, no matter what the job is. Every van is available with a choice of either a large tailgate or versatile rear wing doors. Both are available glazed or in solid metal for added security.
LED lighting
LED lighting throughout the interior including cargo area comes as standard.

The T6.1 range features several storage options to create an organised and uncluttered cab:
Split locking functions
Available on Transporter 6.1 vans with a bulkhead, the new split locking functions keep you and your load secure. Postman mode is perfect for keeping your load secure if you get in and out of the cab often. The load doors are locked once the ignition is switched on, and can then only be unlocked and opened from in the van. A light in the key shows when the load space is locked. Workshop mode lets you safely lock personal kit and paperwork in the cab but keep the load area open. It’s ideal if you need to load or unload cargo on site or away from a secure base.
