Europe’s most popular car, the Volkswagen Golf, is back and ready to rumble with a host of impressive updates.
Available to order now from Marshall Volkswagen, the cost of the latest Golf is far from inflated; despite the upsurge in features. Prices average at £650 less than the current equivalent, retaining the retrospective starting price of £17,625 OTR for the entry level Golf S 1.0 TSI; that’s some serious value for money.
With 33 million Volkswagen Golfs rolling off the production line since 1974, the past 43 years have brought us a vehicle every 40 seconds. Development is far from losing steam, however, with each generation providing class-leading innovation. This year, the Golf will welcome Discover Navigation Pro radio-navigation, which can be operated using gesture control; incorporating a 9.2-inch touchscreen, the latest Golf is running full speed ahead with regard to technology.
Assistance systems are also ahead of the curve, featuring City Emergency Braking, new Traffic Jam Assist and Emergency Assist; the latter is brand new to the compact class, acting to pick up on driver incapacitation. Initially working to rouse the driver, Emergency Assist will orchestrate an Emergency Stop if necessary, providing a potentially life-saving grace.
The latest Golf will also showcase a brand new engine; the 1.5 TSI Evo. Four cylinders produce 150 PS, with an ultra-efficient strategic shut-down function, as seen in the hybrid Golf GTE. An upgraded 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox will also help to provide frugal CO2 figures, improving by up to 10 g/km.
The re-work of the Golf continues in its bodywork, with new bumpers displayed on the front and rear, as well as new halogen headlights with an LED daytime running feature, or full LED available. In addition, restyled front wings ensure that the latest Golf is instantly recognised from its peers, without straying from its signature sporting aesthetic.
