smart confirm that they are the quintessential city car by offering battery-electric drive across the board.

With convenient urban driving at the core of smart’s philosophy, it’s no surprise that the brand have decided to make the definitive move into sustainable, emission-free motoring with the launch of an enviable battery-electric fleet. What may surprise you, however, is that smart will be introducing electric power to every single model in their 4th generation range, making them the first manufacturer in the world to offer both a combustion engine and battery option in every single variant.

Available across the smart fortwo, smart forfour and fortwo cabrio models, travelling on city streets is now more flexible than ever, with the added bonus of the latter being the only electric cabrio on the road. Small yet strong, the brawn beneath the hood of a smart electric car is bigger than you may anticipate – a torque of 160 Newton metres and 160 kW of power equates to seriously impressive acceleration, alongside the convenience of a high-performance on-board charger to make powering up twice as fast as previous derivatives.

A new fast charger will be available as an additional feature from 2017, allowing the vehicle to be fully re-charged within a nippy 45 minutes (depending on the country version and energy supply network).
