Audi quattro Cup 2017 - UK Finalist Success for Taunton Audi

14th September 2017

Jon Ball and Melissa McMahon proved a cut above the competition at the UK final of the world's largest amateur golf tournament - the Audi Quattro Cup.

Jon and Melissa, representing Taunton Audi, successfully completed the course at the Bowood Hotel and Golf Resort in Calne, Wiltshire, on Thursday 7 September.

The pair, who came through a nationwide field of more than 2,000 contestants, triumphed with a score of 38 in the Greensome Stableford format – just one point ahead of runners-up James Dedman (Walton Audi) and Martin Williams (Epsom Audi).

Jon said: "We trusted in each other’s abilities and we just edged the competition."

Melissa added: “We both got round under par, which was one of our goals. It has been a fantastic experience.”

The winning pair will travel to Mexico to play in the world final at the stunning Quivira Golf Club, designed by golfing legend Jack Nicklaus. The spectacular cliff-top course is set on the Baja Peninsula, where the Sea of Cortez meets the Pacific Ocean.

Up against competitors from 47 other countries, Jon and Melissa will represent their local Audi Centre in Taunton, in the hope of walking away with the trophy.

Jon said: "It has made my year! Getting through to Mexico is such a buzz."

Jon and Melissa will hope to improve on last year’s UK performance in the world final in Barcelona, when teams from South Hereford Audi, Coulsdon Audi and Beckenham Audi all finished in the top 10. Eric Kelley and Don Tate from the USA took the 2016 title.

Runners-up James and Martin will also compete in the prestigious world final.

James said: “The hospitality has been amazing. It was a tough final but I found a new mate in Martin, and that pulled us through to take the second spot. Mexico is going to be huge.”

Quivira is the latest famous course to host the world final of the Audi quattro Cup. Other renowned venues include the Belfry in England, Fancourt in South Africa, K Club in Ireland, Mission Hills in China and the Earth Course at Jumeirah Golf Estates in Dubai.
