Now is the time that many car owners start to think about fitting cold weather tyres to their vehicle, and according to the National Franchised Dealer Association they are especially useful for two groups of motorists in particular.
Winter tyres are designed to maximise grip when the temperature falls below a sustained seven degrees centigrade. They have been proven to help motorists stop safely on icy roads and keep control when it’s snowing compared to conventional tyres. In addition, they tend to be more resistant to wear and tear.
Cold weather tyres also don’t cost any more than conventional tyres – around £200 for a typical family car, depending on the tyre manufacturer and professional fitting costs, according to the NFDA.
